MangaLens × Rawkuma

How to Translate Rawkuma Without Tab-Switching

Rawkuma is one of the largest aggregators of Japanese raws on the web — and unless you read Japanese fluently, it's also one of the most frustrating sites to use. MangaLens overlays AI translation directly on Rawkuma pages, so you can read a fresh raw the day it's posted instead of waiting weeks for a scanlation.

When MangaLens Helps Most on Rawkuma

Rawkuma's whole reason for existing is fresh raws — Japanese chapters posted within hours of the magazine release. That speed is the value, but it also means almost everything on the site is unreadable to non-Japanese speakers. MangaLens turns that tradeoff on its head.

Use case

Same-day Weekly Shonen Jump raws

One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academia raws hit Rawkuma the same day the magazine drops in Japan. Open the chapter, click MangaLens, and read it before the official English release on MangaPlus or the English-language fan summary leaks on Reddit.

Use case

Mid-tier series the scanlation scene has dropped

Plenty of solid mid-tier series get a few volumes scanlated and then abandoned. The raws keep coming on Rawkuma. MangaLens lets you keep reading without learning Japanese or hoping a new group picks it up.

Use case

Reading in Indonesian, Arabic, Hindi, or Portuguese instead of English

Even when an English scanlation exists, it might not exist in your language — and waiting for a re-translation from English doubles the delay and the errors. MangaLens goes straight from the Japanese raw to your language.

How It Works on Rawkuma

1

Install MangaLens

One click from the Chrome Web Store. Works on every Chromium-based browser.

2

Open the chapter on Rawkuma

Navigate to the chapter page on rawkuma — the long vertical strip of page images.

3

Click Translate

Hit the MangaLens icon, pick your output language, and the Japanese speech bubbles are replaced with translations in place. Scroll the chapter normally.

Why a Raws-First Site Is the Hardest Use Case — and the One That Matters Most

Sites that already display translated chapters are a quality-of-life upgrade for non-native readers. Rawkuma is something different: a site where 100% of the content is in Japanese by design. Without a translation tool, the site is unusable to anyone who can't read Japanese. With MangaLens it becomes one of the fastest ways in the world to read fresh manga.

MangaLens does not log in to Rawkuma, does not modify the page beyond drawing translated text over the speech bubbles, and does not send anything about your reading history to Rawkuma or to us. Pages are processed by the AI translation server only on click, and discarded immediately. See the Privacy Policy.

Rawkuma-Specific Questions

Does MangaLens work on Rawkuma's image-based reader?

Yes. Rawkuma serves chapters as a vertical list of JPEG/WebP page images. MangaLens runs OCR on each visible image, detects the Japanese speech bubbles, and overlays a translation directly on the page — no download or external viewer needed.

Can it translate furigana, vertical text, and hand-lettered Japanese?

Yes. The OCR pipeline handles vertical Japanese (which is the default for manga), mixed tategaki/yokogaki layouts, and most hand-lettered text inside speech balloons. Heavily stylized SFX painted into the artwork is harder and may be skipped to avoid covering the art.

Will MangaLens slow down Rawkuma's already-heavy image loading?

Translation only runs when you click the MangaLens icon — it does not auto-trigger on every page. Rawkuma loads at its normal speed, then MangaLens processes the visible pages on demand, usually in a few seconds per chapter.

What if the raw is Korean or Chinese, not Japanese?

MangaLens auto-detects the source language. Rawkuma occasionally hosts Korean manhwa raws and Chinese manhua raws alongside the Japanese catalog — those translate just as cleanly into your chosen output language.

Is using a translation overlay on Rawkuma safe for my browser?

MangaLens runs as a normal Chrome extension. It only sends manga page images to the translation server when you click translate. It does not read your browsing history, your cookies on other sites, or anything outside the page you're actively viewing.
